A robot is a machine that can perform complex series of actions and in particular that can be programmed by computer. The robots we know today were developed after World War II, due to the growing demand for automation in the automotive industry. Previously, robots were nothing more than tools for automation, programmed to perform specific tasks: transporting, loading, unloading, welding, etc. Today, there are so-called intelligent robots, programmed to detect any disturbance in their environment and to act accordingly.

Robotics has no limits, and is advancing faster every day, to the point of providing robots with social skills similar to those of human beings. In healthcare, robotic applications are used to monitor patients, alert nurses and administer medication. They can also assist in operations and aid rehabilitation; furthermore, robots are useful in many ways; for example, in boosted economy because companies must be efficient to keep up with the competition in the industry. Therefore, having robots can help humans streamline their work.

If technological advances make this type of robots work well enough to gain the trust of human beings, it can be a great advance, because given the complexity a robot can make easier or better some situations that for human beings are a little more complex. The progress of robotics is growing every day, and today, it is difficult to estimate how far it will go. What is clear is that this branch of robotics is very important for human beings and, in the future, it may become an essential part of our daily lives.
